It is already more than three years ago that Citizens of Europe joined the group of organisations from all over the continent who promote the idea of a European Citizens Initiative. Meanwhile, a lot has been achieved: The ECI was included in the Lisbon Treaty. Afterwards, the European Commission started a so-called Greenbook-process as an invitation to everybody concerned to contribute opinions and answer a set of questions. Several organisations have done so. On 22 February, a public hearing will take place. Afterwards, the Commission will present a set of rules for the European Citizens’ Initiative’s procedure – and Parliament and Council will decide on it.
